February Out Meeting at Occidental Brewing Company

  • 02/12/2013
  • 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Occidental Brewing Company
Our February meeting has been rescheduled to the 12th (Tuesday) on account of Valentine's Day.

All active members are cordially invited to join us at Occidental Brewing Company on February 12th for a great out meeting. Occidental, which opened in 2011, specializes in brewing continental-inspired, German-style beers.  The brewery is located in Cathedral Park Place, right next to Cathedral Park at the base of the St. Johns Bridge.

In addition to the brewer, Ben Engler, showing us around the brewery, we're pleased to announce Abram Goldman-Armstrong will present on Cascadian Dark Ale. With the Heart of Cascadia on the horizon, aspiring Heart winners will want to catch Abram's talk in preparation to brew their entries.

As usual, you must be a current OBC member to attend this out meeting. No guests or non-members please.  Also, no renewals or new memberships will be processed at this event so please make sure that you use our website to join or become current before the meeting.  Thanks for your understanding.

Please note that, in an attempt to try something new, the club will NOT be hosting food for this meeting.  Instead, food will be available for individual purchase by the members.  The OBC has made arrangements for a new, local food vendor to be on site to sell food during the meeting.  The Urban German Grill will be at the meeting to offer a selection of locally-made German-style sausages (with sauerkraut and bun) for only $5 to $6 each. Homemade Bavarian Pretzels will also be available for purchase at a cost of $3.50.  We encourage you to support this local food vendor and plan to purchase food at the meeting.

Education topic: Open Forum!  A panel of experienced and successful OBC homebrewers will answer questions from the group in an open Q&A informal format.  Think of it as chatting about making better beer with 100 of your closest friends.

Food: We would like to have food available at this meeting, so we encourage our members to bring some food items for everyone to share. Don't forget that bringing food to share at a meeting can earn not only Karma points but also raffle tickets.  Meagan will be holding a raffle for all members that bring food items.  She will be giving away a $25 gift card and more. On top of all of this, our 2018 Burgermeister, Meagan Thompson would love the support!

Beer:  Beer is a very important part of these meetings. We wouldn’t have beer without our members. Growler fills and bottled homebrew  are highly encouraged as this is a great way to share your beer with your peers and get honest and immediate feedback. If you bring a keg of your homebrew to a meeting you will earn Karma Points! Keep in mind that we may have beer planned for the Education topic or beer from other club specific brewing events. So that we can balance the amount of beer available at our meetings It is very helpful for us to plan in advance of the meeting. If you would like to request a tap spot for your keg, or if you plan to pour a keg via a picnic tap, please let us know in advance! We ask that if you do bring a keg, that you give a brief talk to the members about the details of your beer . Please contact Club VP to see if there is room for your keg @ Brian.haslip@oregonbrewcrew.org

Please support your club and plan on attending! Guests and visitors are welcome at all "In" Meetings!
