Burnside Brewing, OBC's host for the recent March out meeting, will be hosting the 2nd Annual Portland Fruit Beer Festival on Saturday, June 9th and Sunday, June 10th featuring many one-off, special brews from commercial brewers. The Oregon Brew Crew is pleased to again be running the PFBF homebrew competition this year.

This is an non-BJCP style open competition; any homebrewer, club or not, from any state, may enter.

For ingredients, the rules are that you must use real fruit, whole or pureed. Natural juice (concentrated or diluted) is acceptable, however no extracts or artificial flavorings will be allowed. It is also suggested that you clean your fruit of any wax or pesticides before use, if applicable. As usual, no illegal ingredients.

This year entries will be divided into four simple categories: Light Colored (12 SRM and lower), Dark Colored (greater than 12 SRM), Sour, and the new category Spice/Herb. The Best of Show will then be determined from the winners of those categories. Your beer will be judged with simple sensory analysis sheets designed to give feedback without regard to total overall score. Prizes for each first place in the three categories are a $20 gift certificate to Burnside Brewing. The Best of Show grand prize will win an additional $50 gift certificate! The winners will be announced on Saturday, June 9th during the festival.

Entries will be accepted at Burnside Brewing and F.H. Steinbart's from Saturday, May 19th to Saturday, May 26th by the end of business with judging to commence the following Saturday, June 2nd. Each entry costs $7, but you get three beer tickets and a 16oz gold flaked glass in return! Please make check or money orders out to "Oregon Brew Crew" with a memo of "PFBF Entry Fee". There are no limits to the number of entries any one brewer may enter, but any one beer must be entered into only one category (no spamming multiple categories with one beer). Each entry must consist of two unmarked 10 - 22 oz. bottles accompanied by a club only competition form completely filled out with bottle ID forms rubber banded to each bottle. When filling out your entry forms, please specify all fruit(s) used and (if applicable) all spice/herb(s) used. You don't have to give a recipe, but we must know the extras beyond the grains that comprise the brew. As well, please specify the category you are entering the beer in or it may be miscategorized. Please be advised that bottles missing the above form or using tape or sticker of any kind will automatically be disqualified without refund. *No exceptions*.

A new special separate judging this year will be held to pick homebrews which will be served at the PFBF Dinner on Friday, June 8th. The PFBF Dinner will feature a specially crafted menu to compliment the homebrews selected. If you desire your beer to be considered for this separate judging, please mark IN BIG BLOCK LETTERS at the top of your entry form "CONSIDER FOR PFBF DINNER". If your beer is chosen, you must have at least a FULLCornelius keg (approx. 5 gallons above and beyond the amount removed if you've entered the homebrew comp) worth of beer, and be willing to donate it to the PFBF in order to qualify. In exchange, you will receive a free entry to the PFBF dinner (valued at a minimum of $50). PLEASE NOTE you do not need to enter the homebrew comp in order to request your beer be considered for the PFBF Dinner, but you may enter both (as long as you can provide 5 gallons of the beer should it be selected for the dinner). As well and conversely, if you've entered the beer into the homebrew comp, regardless of your beer winning any category (including Best Of Show), a homebrew comp win is not a guarantee your beer will be chosen for the dinner; again, the two judgings are independent of each other. All decisions are arbitrary, final, and at the full discretion of the PFBF.

Burnside Brewing is graciously donating a sum of money to the OBC for it's help in the competition. You can show your support and thanks, if you are a licensed OLCC server, by volunteering for a shift to pour beer for them during the festival.
