Its a 10 week class; it runs from 4/10-6/12 on monday nights 6:30-8:30 or 9 depending on the week. Class will be at Homebrew exchange/Arbor Lodge brewing, 6550 N Interstate Ave, Portland, OR 97217 right on the yellow max line at rosa parks station.
Cost is 150$ for 10 weeks for obc members. Non members is 185 and comes with a free 35 dollar obc membership. We arent getting paid, that is 100% the budget to but the beers for the class, each week we will sample around 8-11 beers; belgian and sour weeks are pricey. The exams cost 10$ for the online entrance, and 40$ for the tasting exam, payable to the bjcp. That includes lifetime membership to the bjcp - theres no membership fees once you pass the exam. So around 200 total. (If you need financial assistance, reach out, we have limited assistance available)
During the class we will go over most styles of beer, tasting classic examples, go over sensory and off flavors, and how to judge beer and give feedback in general. You dont need to be a great brewer, or have drank every special realease of barrel aged imperial stout ever; We dont care about those things. We care that you still have a decent sense of smell, can mentally focus on the present, can write accurately, and are open to drinking whatever comes along. If that sounds like you, and the idea of judging and pontificating on beers on a few saturday mornings a year sounds vaguely amusing, we encourage you to join us.
We have 16 spots for the class, so please sign up by friday if you can.
