Portland Water Bureau Increasing Chlorine Residual in Drinking Water

10/02/2013 7:45 PM | Anonymous
On Monday, September 30th, the Portland Water Bureau began increasing the level of chlorine disinfection leaving our treatment facility from 2 mg/L to 3 mg/L. These higher levels of chlorine should be entering the distribution system in the next few days. As a result of the increase it is expected that some customers may experience a higher level of chlorine residual in their drinking water.

The increase in disinfection will help to maintain disinfection residuals throughout the system which can decline with the warmer water temperatures and decreased customer demand typically seen in late summer and early fall.

We anticipate returning to our normal treatment targets in a few weeks.
