I’m going to sound like a broken record for those that read last month’s newsletter, but I have to cover the upcoming elections again since we are required by the bylaws to publish revisions out to the membership 30 days before we vote on them. We are proposing 2 bylaw revisions at this year’s elections meeting. The first one will deal with Board Member indemnification and is pretty long, but straightforward when you read the plan English version of it. The second is clearing up some language about board member removal, which was prompted by a situation earlier this year when the person elected for the communications chair left without telling anyone and we had to wait the 3 months for them to no-show to the board meetings in order to formally remove them. Both of these items along with the full texts of the bylaw revisions are available to discuss on the OBC forums. Additionally we will be presenting the 2014 budget in this newsletter and on the forums for discussion. At the time of writing this article the link is not available, but check on the forums and it should be there soon……..


Speaking of the November Elections meeting now is the time to start thinking about running for the 2014 board. If you have already announced that you want to run for the board, or if you are thinking about it, please send me an email and let me know. I will need you to write up a candidate bio for our November newsletter and you will need to be prepared to come up and speak at the November meeting. These don’t need to be congressional debate length type speeches, they should be just a quick 1 to 2 minute long speech on why you want to run for the board and what you would like to accomplish next year.


Finally our November meeting will be at the new Breakside location in Milwaukie. With this being both an “out” meeting and an elections meeting the format is going to be a little bit different. First we are encouraging everyone to show up early. We can’t vote without a quorum present so the faster everyone shows up, the faster we can get the elections over with. Second when you check in you will be given a ballot and a ticket good for one beer. After (and only after) the elections portion of the meeting is over, you will turn your ballot in and receive your second ticket for beer. You can feel free to not pay attention to the elections, candidates and budget then fill in your ballot and do whatever, but your ballot will not be accepted until after the election portion of the meeting has finish and you will not receive your ticket for beer until then. As a counterpoint to this, I promise to keep the elections portion of the meeting on track and moving along. Finally we will have a food cart called “Bro Dogs” there providing everyone with an opportunity to have something to fill their stomachs.  


Hopefully with us providing opportunity to discuss election issues online and ahead of the November meeting we can get all of the questions and answers out of the way and make for a faster than traditional November/Elections meeting.
