    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    January 2012

** APPLY NOW -- APPLICATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR FALCONER FOUNDATION BREWING SCHOLARSHIPS **

With the generous co-sponsorship of the Seibel Institute of Technology, the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation is offering two full-tuition brewing education scholarships in 2012.

One scholarship is to the World Brewing Academy Web-based Concise Course in Brewing Technology from August to November 2012.  The Concise Course in Brewing Technology is a two-week intensive program that covers every topic critical to successful brewery operations. The program is designed for brewers pursuing a wider knowledge of professional brewing standards and techniques in order to advance their brewing careers as well as individuals planning to enter the brewing industry.

The second scholarship allows candidates to apply for one of three two-week Web-based modules from the International Diploma in Brewing Technology Program.  This specialty brewing scholarship is intended for those brewers who seek an in-depth understanding of a specific brewing discipline.  Candidates must designate which module they wish to attend.

The Concise Course scholarship is open to individuals planning on entering the brewing industry and to professional brewers with no more than three years of brewery work experience.  The specialty brewing scholarship is open only to professional brewers.  Applicants must be from the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and Hawaii and California’s northern geographic region (San Francisco Bay/Monterey Bay areas and north).  The full application must be received no later than March 23, 2012.  Complete details and scholarship applications are available at www.siebelinstitute.com.

The Glen Hay Falconer Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities for professional and aspiring craft brewers from the Pacific Northwest to further their knowledge and expertise.  For more information on the Foundation please visit www.glenfalconerfoundation.org.

Hi everyone at the Oregon Brew Crew,

What a wonderful surprise it was to receive the OBC donation in honor of Glen, dated on his 50th birthday no less!  Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity.  I hope you all toasted to friendship, craft brewing and Glen on that day.  We did many times over.  Glen is dearly missed by his family, friends, brewing community, and even by those who never had the chance to personally know him.  But his spirit lives on strong and, with the help of great folks like you, we are all able to give back to the community that meant so much to Glen.

We are continually amazed by the sense of camaraderie and common good that pervades the Pacific Northwest brewing world.  You folks at OBC really represent that many times over.  We all benefit from helping aspiring and professional brewers round out their innate skills with formal brewing education.  Thank you for your generosity and commitment to the Foundation and our brewing scholarship program.

    So, Cheers to you!

Congratulations to OBC member Chris Extine who won the right to ship his beer on to the Best of Show round of the AHA Club-Only competition "Hail to Hefeweizen"! If he chooses to enter, he'll pay the $7 AHA fee, but we cover the cost of standard shipping without insurance.

For those entrants who participated, your scoresheets will be scanned and sent out via email this weekend. Thanks to everyone who entered (Chris Extine, Justin Galster and Jeremy Evans, and Ted Assur) and to our judges (Ryan Gibson, David White, and Ingmar Saul) who donated their time to come out and judge.

The competition page has been updated with a link to the 2012 AHA club-only comps. Check it out and get brewing!

    Hey all,

This here is a courtesy email for our friends over at the NoPo Brews homebrew club to give their new event more visibility and "viewage". :)

Coming up on December 16th and 17th is Plew's Brews' Winter Beer Festival. As well, it's NoPo Brews first beer festival. They plan on having some really great beers on tap for to drink!

Friday hours are 5:p.m. to close. Saturday hours are open ("Noon") to close ("last call"). They need OLCC licensed servers to pour, so if you're interested in helping out, please contact them at plewspdx@gmail.com or nopobrews@gmail.com.

       Cheers!

    Hey all,

The Fall Classic 2011 results have been posted. Please note they are quick and dirty right now. We just wanted to get them up same day.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped on this event, sponsors, stewards, judges, and staff - too many to list here right now. When we post the permanent "prettied" results, all involved will be named. The competition really turned out well, and we have many new ideas for next year.

We will be scanning scoresheets and sending out emails with PDFs of those scans attached. Prizes (pint glasses and medals) will be sent out within the week.

Congrats to all winners, and cheers!
