The April in-meeting event has been updated with info; we're being visited by a special guest to talk about hops, rhizomes, and caring for your bines. Head over to Events (left-hand menu) to find out who!

The newsletter archive has been updated. Issues from 1980, August through December, have been added in PDF format. As the scans are quite large, I've had to size the PDFs down. The quality is still very excellent. (Ultra-high quality versions available upon request.) I am continuing to update the archive, so keep checking back. Also, I am looking for fills. If you have a missing issue, please contact me: competition@oregonbrewcrew.org. All currently missing issues are so noted. Thanks!

    The rules and other particulars:

       * Only one successful dart toss per entrant.
       * Only one entry per named brewer (e.g.: Jack, Jane, and Joe brew together - all three have brewed their limit).
       * Proxy throws for those not present ARE ALLOWED; please specify before throwing.
       * You may throw the dart until you get ONE successful scored "hit" (as defined below).
       * No re-throwing for any one brewer is allowed after a successful "hit".
       * Scoring is as follows:
Bullseye = brew whatever you want, but you must pick the style then and there
Triple ring and inward = Low ABV
Outward from triple ring to double ring = High ABV
Black and Green spots = Dark in color
White and Red spots = Light color
Here's a dart board picture for clarity: http://bit.ly/hu51kN
       * If there are any questions as to the validity of a throw, the organizer's (Ben Flerchinger, Head Brewer, Lucky Lab Quimby) decision will be final.

The yeast can be purchased from F.H. Steinbart's Homebrew Supply (http://www.fhsteinbart.com/index.php) while quantities last. Only Wyeast 3787 Trappist High Gravity may be used; no exceptions. Ingredients are open, but the finished yeast sample must adhere to the style you picked in the dart toss. YOU MAY use a pitch of yeast from a local brewery provided it is this year's PCTBB yeast; its source should be identified as such with your entry.

Please keep in mind that entries will be accepted between April 19th through April 22nd (until 6:p.m. on the 22nd) ONLY at the Lucky Lab on NW Quimby. No early drop-offs, no late shows, no exceptions.

Thank you again for the renewed interest in this yearly event!

       Cheers,

       Jeremie Landers

I'm very disappointed to announce that the Beer Judge Certification Program has restricted the number of tests that can be given each month to such an extent, that there is now a one year wait to schedule an exam.  There's not much we can do about it, except wait, so we will most likely be scheduling a BJCP class in the late fall of 2011 with the test happening in or around the beginning of 2012.

We will have to decide this month how many test slots to reserve, so let your Education Committee Chairman know if you might be interested in taking this class.

Fred Eckhardt donated his entire past newsletter archive and they are in the process of being scanned in for posterity. Stay tuned to the newsletter archive page and this blog for updates. We had been missing nearly 20 years of newsletters. Through Fred's kind donation, they'll soon see the light of day again.

We now have an optional member directory that is visible to members only.  You can upload your own beer related pictures into your own album and use the directory to contact other members.

You can add as much, or as little, of your information to the directory as you decide.  Check out the directions in the Member-Only Member Directory.

Don't forget: TONIGHT is the last chance dart toss for PCTBB to find out what kind of yeast sample you can develop. Meet Ben Flerchinger and Jeremie Landers at Lucky Lab Hawthorne from 6-8:p.m. to throw a dart.
