While this season can feel full of "to-do lists" it is also full of celebrations! That means, it's time for our Annual OBC Holiday Party! Come join us for the annual  raffle, potluck, slide show, awards, and great people! In order to make this another event to remember: We really need your help!  We need volunteers for decoration/setup, event check in and raffle donation support. If you can help out with asking for raffle donations please email board@oregonbrewcrew.org. We also need kitchen staff to keep things organized, clean and served. Therefore, we also need folks to commit to bringing a dish - salads, sides and desserts! And of course it wouldn't be a party without BEER! Spouses, partners and children are invited but we will NOT be providing baby-sitting services. There is very limited onsite parking, with additional parking in the adjacent neighborhood. We strongly suggest that folks make arrangements with a designated driver or ride-sharing to avoid challenges with parking, and ensure a safe and sober ride home. There is limited oven space in the kitchen, so if you are bringing hot food, please bring it hot and ready to serve! The entry is through the front door off Lombard street, and the festivities will all be upstairs. There is a chair lift available for those needing assistance with the stairs. There is no entry to the event through the back door (from the parking lot). Have A Safe And Happy Holiday Season!

The October 2024 OBC In-Meeting (10/10/2024 @7pm) will include a special presentation by a couple of representatives from the Tualatin Valley Water, speaking about local water profiles.  The food theme for this meeting will be Halloween in any way, shape, and form. This class is being offered to any BJCP judge in the Portland area - and by “any judge” we are including provisional judges, as long as you’ve taken the beer tasting exam you’re welcome to join the class. This will be a four week class, mostly occurring on Tuesdays in October. Three of the sessions will be at the Oddfellows Lodge in North Portland, at 6:30 PM; the fourth class has not been scheduled and will either be at the Oddfellows Lodge sometime in November, or will be a Tuesday in October at another location. The cost for the class will be $80 for OBC members, or $115 for non-OBC members. The class cost will not include either the online mead exam or the tasting exam, which is yet to be scheduled but will likely be in the spring. The approximate syllabus for this class will be: Week 1: How to judge meads, a meads structure and wine terminology, when its useful and when its not.  How the mead scoresheet differs from the beer scoresheet Tasting panel of Categories M1A, M1B, M1C Week 2: Strategies for the online mead exam, more on fruit quality and structure.  Tasting panel of categories M2A through M2E (fruited meads) Week 3: Honey tasting panel (10+ common honeys often used in PNW meads) Mead tasting panel of categories M3A and M3B (spiced meads) Week 4: Mead off flavors M4A is bad, Eastern European and Ethiopian meads deserve more, Scott and Alex have opinions, prepare yourselves. OBC September social-meetup is next Thursday 26th. from 6:30-late.  Join us for some fun at the Living Haus brewing location in SE Portland for some drinks, Drag Bingo, and merriment.
